What is the problem with the Met Police?

The Metropolitan Police Service (also known as the Met Police or the MPS) is the police force responsible for law enforcement in Greater London, England. Like any large organisation, the Met Police faces various challenges and issues, some of which have been the subject of criticism and controversy. Some of the main issues that have been raised about the Met Police include:

Racism and discrimination:
There have been longstanding concerns about racism and discrimination within the Met Police, particularly in relation to its treatment of Black and ethnic minority communities. Several high-profile cases of alleged police brutality and racial profiling have led to calls for reform and improved accountability.

Use of force:
The use of force by the police is a sensitive issue, and there have been several incidents involving the Met Police where excessive force has been alleged. In some cases, this has led to serious injuries or fatalities.

Transparency and accountability:
The Met Police has been criticised for its lack of transparency and accountability, particularly in relation to investigations into police misconduct. Some have argued that the police complaints system is not effective, and that there is a lack of trust between the police and the public.

Leadership and culture:
Some have argued that the culture and leadership of the Met Police need to change in order to address some of the issues it faces. There have been concerns about the lack of diversity within the police leadership, and about the effectiveness of the current leadership in responding to issues such as racism and discrimination.

It is important to note that these issues are complex and multifaceted, and that the Met Police is working to address them through a range of initiatives and reforms. However, there is still much work to be done to improve trust and accountability between the police and the public, and to ensure that the police are serving all communities fairly and effectively.

Like many people I’ve been a big critic of the police, particularly over the last couple of years, but I’m not one of these nutjobs who wants to defund the police. I just want a police force we can trust and who actually do proper policing. Is that too much to ask?
